Patterns and motifs tell a beautiful story of how simple and basic elements composite or replicate to form a bigger picture that is amazing to look at. I often parallel this with everything around us in the world. The beauty of a picture or moment is in the composition. Even when we zoom in to one single object, it still is the result of composition.
One of the pillars of the display of African culture is its fabric. For over 10 years , ankara fabric design has been one of the biggest interests of mine.
I would often illustrate simple icons or shapes and turn into patterns and motifs in my notepad till recently when I found out I could use them to contrast my black and white photography.
With this style I can centralise the subject in the middle of the sheet and tell a simple but profound story around it.
